Marcel is a 14-year old boy from Poland, living in Iceland. In November 2018 he was diagnosed with cancer, concretely Hodgkin’s lymphoma – cancer of the lymphatic tissue. Although the diagnosis was a shock, he decided to not give up and fight. Imagine, what were you doing while being 14 years old? I know exactly, I played soccer, crossed fingers for Bayern Munich (same as Marcel) and started to visit college. I have heard about cancer, but that was it.
Marcel and his story were brought to me by an ex-colleague who asked me to send to the boy a postcard from abroad. It’s an initiative which helps him in his fight. The postcard brings hope, it pleases and encourages. Maybe Marcel has started to write his list of places he will visit in future. The postcard from Zealand (Wanaka) will arrive soon, I hope.
Marcel has a dream, he wants to visit the stadium of Bayern Munich at one day. While he commutes with his mother to the hospital in Reykavik, which is 500-kilometers from his home in Bolungarvik, his father takes at home care about two other boys, Nikolas a Alan. The family is thankful for every postcard, every supportive word and every Euro. Marcel is happy to have the support of so many people, people he often doesn’t even know. He asked his father once how can he sacrifice thank to all the people, his father replied: “You will not give up and fight!” Marcel answered: “YES”.
Usually I ask you for a financial donation, however this time it will be a simple postcard. Herewith I ask very much, whether you are in Slovakia, Czech, Romania, Spain, Britain, Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Mexico, Japan, Australia, … wherever at home or in the world, dedicate some time to Marcel and send him a postcard (language is not important). Show real humanity where the hope is needed more than ever.
